Mitsubishi Galant Automatic Gearbox / MF

Workshop manual, service manual and repair manual of automotive automatic transmission for Mitsubishi Galant / MF models, F4A21, F4A22, F3A21. It is written in Spanish.
The Mitsubishi Galant is an automobile manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors between 1969 and 2012. The name was derived from the French word galant, meaning "chivalrous".There have been nine distinct generations, and cumulative sales now exceed five million. It began as a compact sedan, but over the course of its life has evolved into a larger mid-size car. Initial production was only based in Japan, but since 1994 the American market has been served by vehicles assembled at the former Diamond-Star Motors (DSM) facility in Normal, Illinois.
The first generation of the car, initially known as the Colt Galant, was released in December 1969 at a new Mitsubishi Japanese dealership called Galant Shop. The design was dubbed "Dynawedge" by Mitsubishi, referring to the influence of aerodynamics on the silhouetteThree models were available, powered by the new 'Saturn' engine in 1.3 (AI model) or 1.5 L (AII and AIII) configurations. 1.4 and 1.6 litre versions (14L and 16L) replaced these in September 1971, and a larger 1.7 followed in January 1973. Initially only available as a four-door sedan, a five-door estate and two-door hardtop variant were added in 1970, the hardtop being Mitsubishi's first production passenger car with full side windows and no side pillars. The Galant was offered as a competitor to the Toyota Corona, Nissan Bluebird and Mazda Capella. It became Mitsubishi's first car to be sold in the United States in 1971 when the Chrysler Corporation, the company's new partner and stakeholder, began importing the car as the Dodge Colt. It was also produced by Chrysler Australia and sold alongside the larger Chrysler Valiant models as the Chrysler Valiant Galant.
From 1970, a fastback coupé model was developed, the Galant GTO. Fashioned after contemporary American muscle cars, the hardtop GTO was available with a choice of two "Saturn" engines and the 2-litre Astron 80, and was available until 1975. The nameplate was sufficiently highly regarded in Japan for it to be resurrected for the 1990 Mitsubishi GTO coupé.
A second, more compact coupé was introduced on a chassis shortened by 12 cm in 1971, the Galant FTO. Powered by the 4G41 1.4 L engine, it too would leave a legacy for the company to return to in the 1990s with the Mitsubishi FTO.

The Mitsubishi 4D56 diesel engine
The history of the much famed power plant manufactured by Mitsubishi can be traced back to 1972 with the introduction of the 4G5 as a collaboration between Aston and Mitsubishi. However in 1980, the 4 cylinder, belt driven overhead camp shaft diesel power-plant was introduced by Mitsubishi and is the much famed workhorse the "4D56". The production of this engine which began in 1980's is still continuing to this date with only minor variations while the most significant being the introduction of the common rail fuel injection system.
Mitsubishi engines are known for its power and the longevity of the 4D56 is due to many reasons, cost effectiveness in maintaining, reliability, power and a fairly easy engine to maintain.
In Sri Lanka, where we have our set of wheels, the 4D56 is a workhorse, known by any mechanic around the country. So the chances of getting into a fix is fairly remote since the mechanics have decades of experience in maintaining these engines.
How come Mitsubishi is still manufacturing this engine without discontinuing it like the other manufactures. The answer is simple. If it serves the purpose and can keep upto any new engine why change. Yes, it delivers good power (in comparison to any stock vehicle), cheap to maintain, reliable and if serviced properly with the fuel pump and injectors in good condition would provide a running economy of approx. 12-14 km per liter of diesel.
However in the mid 90's Mitsubishi introduced a much powerful 4M4 engine which it fixed to its Pajero's, Montero's etc., though continuing to still fix the 4D56 to its UTE's citing reliability.
